Land Raider Helios

Version: 0.6  Playable, but lots of stuff still subject to improvement.
Compatibility: UT2004
Description: The Helios is a large fire support tank from the Warhammer 40000 universe.  It harnesses the awesome power of two twin-linked Lascannon sponsons and a devastating Whirlwind missile launcher.
Notes:
 1 - To enter, walk into the cargo hold and press Use.
 2 - The Whirlwind Missile Launcher cannot be fired while the Helios is on the move.
 3 - Use Jump and Crouch to increase and decrease the Whirlwind's range.
 4 - The lascannon sponsons are operated by the Helios fire control systems, but can be manually overridden.
Bot support: A bit, still needs work.

v0.6 - By Dks and Xyx (12 April 2005):

 * Improved handling.  The Land Raider now reaches top speeds of 48 KPH, in accordance with W40K lore.
 * Camera HUD improved, now the same for all cameras.  All turrets can zoom on altfire.
 * The tracks whip up dust while driving, in quantities relevant to their speed.  Track speed when turning has been corrected.  Note that some track sections are still the wrong way around.
 * The exhaust pipes produce smoke, in quantities relevant to engine activity.
 * Missile flame, smoke and explosion improved.
 * Lascannons now fire two separate beams that each hit for 100 direct hit damage plus another 1-100 splash damage in a small radius.  Lascannon beams and impact visuals improved.  A crosshair circle colors red when the cannons are fired, and slowly fades to yellow while the cannons recharge, jumping to green when the cannons are primed for firing.
 * The driver controls the Whirlwind missile launcher.  Duck and Jump control the Whirlwind missile launcher's range.  The range setting is displayed under the crosshair.  In accordance with W40K lore, the launcher can only be fired while the vehicle is stationary.  The charge bar indicates when the next missile is ready for firing.
 * The headlights turned out to be the machine spirit's eyes and have been colored red, in accordance with Warhammer 40K lore.
 * Seat 4 is the camera turret.  It has no real use except looking cool.
 * Seat 5 is the command seat.  When you enter it, you are placed in the manhole on the vehicle's roof, [i]not as a passenger, but outside as if you were standing on the roof[/i].  This allows you to use all your hand weapons and duck for cover.  Note: the vehicle's collision box sometimes interferes with this.  That'll have to be fixed for the next beta, as well as a real manhole will have to be modelled.
 * Dks skinned the Whirlwind missile launcher!  Discmage from UT40K will provide a complete skin!
 * Exit positioning in the cargo hold has been improved.  When you exit, the doors automatically open.  When you enter, they close.  To allow teammates to enter, you'll need them to get inside before you press Enter.


v0.5 - By Xyx (01/03/05):

"We just decided we're going for hardcore Warhammer 40K compliance."

* No weapon for the driver.
* No heavy bolter. That's replaced by a big, mounted camera. The camera swivels in the direction you're looking but doesn't do anything otherwise. It's there for flavor.
* No firing the Whirlwind Missile Launcher while the Helios is moving.
* No troop carrying capacity. Well, actually, that doesn't change anything.
